About Richard Stoute

For over 30 years Richard Stoute has been a champion of Barbadian entertainment. One of Barbados' leading singers, Stoute wrote his name into the annals of entertainment history in Barbados, when he founded the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition.

Richard grew up in a family loaded with singing talent, his older brother Mike Wilkinson was the first Calypso Monarch of Barbados. Wilkinson was also one of the leading singers on the island in the 60s and the early 70s. Their sister Norma Stoute is still considered by many to be Barbados' best female vocalist ever.

Richard started to make a name as an entertainer at an early age. He placed third in the 1961 local calypso competion. Ten years later he became the first and only Caribbean Soul King when he won a competition that was staged in the United States Virgin Islands. He was also a founder of the Opels, and he has sung with Blue Rhythm Combo

Smooth and skillful when he is performing on the stage, Stoute has recorded many his singles during his career. Some of them are Goodbye Now My Bajan Girl, What's The Use, Pretty Blue Eyes, Best Part of My Day, Vehicle and the tearful Pity the Fool. He also recorded an album called You Turn Me On To Love

Stoute has received a number of awards and thophies. He was the Top Entertainment Personality 1982, President of the MEGOB, 1982 -Carl Winston Award for Production of Teen Talent, 1983- Top Male Performer in Barbados, 1984 - Barbados Board of Tourism Award for Top Local Show Producer, 1985 - Boston/united States Award for Promotion of Barbadian Culture, Member of Barbados Board of Tourism, 1989 - Barbados Workers Union Award
